What’s your favorite sweet? In this collection by hair artist Brandon Messinger we dive into the depths of everyone’s favorite guilty pleasure. A concept dreamt up by Brandon Messinger and easily loved by all. Take a peek at this collection and be sure to let us know what your favorite sweet is!

How did you dream up this collection?

I really don't know how I came up with this concept; it kind of just sprang into my head. It seemed like a good idea due to its versatility. I put up a message on Facebook asking people's favourite sweet and went from there!

How did you work with wardrobe and makeup to bring the concept to completion?

Wardrobe was initially an issue. This was a collaborative project between Liam Oakes and I, so budget was minimal.  I went from sticking sweets on bras to wrapping them with cling film, which looked terrible. I then thought “hey let's drape them or throw them at the models” and that seemed to work.

Makeup was never an issue I love using makeup artist Abbie Beautement. It's like she can see into your mind and pull out what you want. She's amazing at what she does and needs no briefing. I always let her go with the flow as it works well for me and certainly does for her.

Do you have a favorite shot?

Yes it's the Candyfloss. The model is actually my girlfriend so there is a little bias there. However, it suited her because in real life she is a massive sweetie.

What’s your favorite type of sweet?

Well I'm not actually a sweet person, but I do have a favourite. It's called Pelon Pelo Rico it's a Mexican Tamarind candy. I was born in California and used to go nuts for it. I once ate 100 on a flight back to the UK... not recommended at all hah.

How do you use styling to enhance your images?

To me hair is like chess. I'm conscious of every move and every angle. I try to give the camera something of interest at all times without overdoing it. I used to have a problem with that and it's taken a while to adopt the "less is more" approach. Which is not so easy when I love the abstract and Avant Garde.

If you had a superpower, what would it be?

I would love to be like mystique from X-Men then I could have them all ;)

Who were your mentors along the way and how have they shaped your career?

Everyone. Everyday stylists. I love taking a bit of everything and adapting it into my own repertoire... So much so I have my own unique cutting system.

What hair/color trends can we look forward to this Season?

I think classics will be big in terms of barbering. Also, I am seeing a rise in more edgy/adventurous short hair on women. With colour I think there will be more vibrant colours, but softly placed to accentuate styles. I am also seeing strobing a great deal, it seems to be coming in more and more and I love the impact of it. It's bold but beautiful.

I'd just like to add a massive thank you too my amazing Assistants Laura Truscott, Mel Storey and Abbie's assistant Katherine Gregory. You guys are all awesome and super passionate. xx

Also a huge shout out to the talented Liam Oakes who gave up some of his free time from his hectic schedule to make this happen.

And lastly a big thanks to my bosses Rick and Zoe Roberts for their continuing support...
