We are thrilled to partner with the Professional Beauty Association (PBA) to promote all of the talented artists who are finalists for the 2016 NAHAs (North American Hairstyling Awards), the most prestigious hair and beauty award in the country. Bangstyle had the honor of interviewing amazing hair artist, and one of this year’s finalists in the “Hairstylist Artist Of The Year” category, Sal Misseri.

With clean lines, vivid colors, and strong composition, Sal Misseri creates a collection for our eyes to feast upon. As a creative director, Sal’s creations are anything but ordinary. Learn more about his 2016 NAHA Finalist Collection and how he creates a successful shoot.

 


 

What was the inspiration behind your collection?

"Reflection" was meant to be an inspired by reflective properties found in our everyday lives; from water, to metal and anything with a metallic finish. Most importantly, reflecting who we are as artists into the work we create by showing how we see beauty. 

 

What is the method for selecting your team?

My team is selected based upon loyalty, artistic skill level, and the drive for success they each hold. It is important to have a team than can creatively collaborate without force to produce work that has a consistent flow in all aspects. 

 

How do you ensure a successful shoot?

Being prepared, and working with a team that you know and trust to fulfill your ideas.

 

 

Do you always work with the same team? Have you used the same team before, or did you work with someone new? 

Yes, I always work with the same team. Building trust with your team will result in consistent outcomes.

 

What was/is a defining moment of your career? 

Creating an education company from the ground up that lets me give back to younger stylists while being able to be surrounded by my closest peers that share the same passion as I do. 

 

What’s the one tool or product you can't live without? 

B-mac Scissors

 

What other forms of art inspire you?

Music and abstract art.

 

What’s your average Saturday night like?

Seeking out the best dining in Chicago!

 

If you won the lottery, what’s the first thing you would splurge on?

Traveling the whole world!

 

Who is the one person you don’t want to forget to thank on stage?

My Kaizen team. It's all about teamwork.
