Mary Alamine, owner & Creative Director of Royals Hair in Sydney, debuts her latest Men’s Collection. Pulling inspiration from one of her favorite movies, this dark and dreamy piece gives us motivation for refreshed new season of men’s styles.

INSPIRATION BEHIND THE COLLECTION

This collectiong was inspired by one of my all time favourite movies “The Matrix”, as well as the Cyber Punk trend that has been making a serious impact in the fashion world. Being a hairdresser who lives in the color black I found the styling to be very appealing to me as well as the attitude that comes with it. “The Twins” from the Matrix is what really brought on the idea to bring this concept to life. I loved their characters in the movie and used them as inspiration for some of the looks in the shoot, in particular the flicking dreadlocks.

STYLING

With the styling we aimed for a Futuristic/Cyber Punk feel. With dark colours and pieces with cool textures as well as some avant-garde elements. Spikes in some of the clothing as well as patent leather worked really well to bring my vision and creative view to life.

MAKEUP

A main focus was black body paint smudged on different parts of the body. We added increased darkness around the eyes to give a piercing effect and enhanced masculine features like jawline to make the models look tough - almost invincible.

PHOTOGRAPHY

The dark moody lighting enveloped the vision of the shoot. Shot in black and white with a dark grey gradient backdrop for even more contrast. We needed the models to look tough with attitude. Stylistically we chose to crop in close to place focus on the texture and movement in the hair.
