The airy bob, the lob, the boy bob, the blunt bob, the shattered bob, the French bob — we’ve seen countless bob trends take over our feeds the past few seasons but just like our favorite cut of jeans, the “boyfriend bob” is officially in! Long hair has been a trend for as long as we can remember but like any great hairstyle, we always want what we don’t have. Case in point: the rise of the boyfriend bob.

The latest hair trend: the boyfriend bob

We've already seen the trend on celebs like Zoe Kravitz and Lucy Boynton. This new shape takes on a slightly longer shape that almost feels like a lob, but with a 60s finish. A square shape allows the wearer to play up straight, flipped, waved or curl finishes. To add something a little extra, go for a punchy global color or add a fringe.

How to style the boyfriend bob

If you’re going for a traditional boyfriend bob finish, you’ll want to stick to a straight and sleek style. Depending on your hair type, this could require some commitment. All hair types should start by adding a heat protectant to their strands post-shower. We suggest Redken Quick Blowout or Redken Oil For All. If you have wavy or curly texture (types 2A and above), add a layer of Redken Big Blowout for heat protection and a helping hand to get a seriously smooth finish. Once the look is complete, add a shine spray like EIMI Glam Mist Shine Spray to play up the finish.
