The AW20 Fashion Month had an ebb and flow between attainability and sustainability. Designs were conscious and aware of their impact on the world as discussions around building a style outweighed indulging in “fast fashion”. It is an exciting time in the world of design as hair takes on wearable finishes with looks that are easily replicated. Keep reading to learn about the latest looks from New York, London, Milan and Paris and see the highlighted style from each city!

NYFW - Bold Style

The designs at New York Fashion Week were all about creating power statements in true high fashion flair. However, when it came to the hair, less was definitely more. Floral patterns accompanied party-ready looks, giving the audience all the more reasons to dress up this season. While we were left swooning over all the shows, we especially fell in love with the total look at Marc Jacobs AW20. Bright monotone colors led the way for 60s-inspired hair and a mod finish. For a feel that clients can easily replicate at home.

“I’ve spent the last 3-4 days with Marc planning out this show. We were focused on three types of women: the past, the present, and the future. Marc is very passionate about style. This show is all about different styles, all in one genre, but in different points of time. He calls it ‘dynamic classicism,’ so there’s a classicness to the way the girls look. There are nods to different time periods: the 60s, 90s, but in a way that girls might wear their hair today. You’ll see girls with ponytails, deep side parts, scarves, hats, uptown girls, downtown girls… with Marc, there’s always and uptown and a downtown element to his looks. Marc is inspired by everyone – every kind of woman, every kind of man. There are some elegant hats in this show, a few hair looks like the on Bella, but the overall theme of the show is what prevails. I’ve prepped the looks with the newly-repackaged Redken Detox Hair Cleansing Cream, used Redken Triple Dry 15 Dry Texturizing Spray for natural texture, and used the NEW! Redken Deep Clean Dry Shampoo for some volume at the root and to absorb excess oil. It’s a very ‘Marc Jacobs’ show.”

LFW - Sustainability

Talks of climate and sustainability were ever-present as top designers at London Fashion Week take pulse of the world around them by considering sourcing, upcycling and revisiting their collections. Building on the post-Brit Punk movement from the 90s, we saw sleeker hair and effortless texture accompany the checked and layered styles down the runway. Looking to the Victoria Beckham show, the designer noted that her vibe this season was all about a “gentle rebellion”. Proving the new norm is all about inclusivity and celebrating styles from all backgrounds. There was two standout looks at the Victoria Beckham AW20 show - effortless lengths and a gentle updo - which are sure to be part of everyone's uniform come summer and fall.

We’re here in London at the Victoria Beckham FW20 show, where we’ve focused on two main looks with a twist of individuality. This season, I’ve focused on soft, chic looks in either a low knot or with the hair down. I’ve used one of my backstage must-haves, Redken Triple Pure 32 Hairspray, to help keep the hairline neat to complement the clothes.” - Redken Global Creative Director Guido Palau

MFW - Feminine Strength

It was a mix of high glamour glitz and comfy knits at Milan Fashion Week as talks of a circular economy of clothing made creatively made their way through the shows. Finding new uses for traditional designs, fashion houses capitalized on adding to wardrobes instead of completely overhauling them. With a transition to more fluid feels, the Dolce & Gabbana show played with the balance between traditional male and female styles. With two options - a gelled finish or an effortless messy-chic chignon - Redken Global Creative Director Guido Palau has us all digging a 60s-esque finish for fall.

“The look at Dolce this season was a play on masculine and feminine looks. With Dolce, there is always that Sicilian influence with a touch of sexiness and femininity. I’ve used Redken Hardwear Gel 16 on the more masculine looks with a deep side part and sprayed it with Redken Triple Pure 32 Hairspray so it is sculptural and boyish. We had a few variations of the feminine looks. I blow-dryed some hair with Redken Extreme Play Safe with some height at the crown for a 60s vibe. There were some chignons that were soft around the face, which is also signature Dolce. You can do these looks at home by cutting down some of the gel and just using some hairspray.” - Redken Global Creative Director Guido Palau.

PFW - Attainability

Paris fashion, with a certain je ne sais quoi, has always had a penchant for effortless beauty. The AW20 runways reiterated this point brilliantly. As a new season of fringe everything took center stage, so did the effortless feel of attainable fashion. Models looked as if they were, in fact, wearing their own clothes with a sense of ease. And, instead of talking in black in white about what is “in” and what is “out” for next season, it was more about building upon personal style to welcome in a refreshed new season. Of the many stunning shows, the hair at Dior and Chloe stood out. With perfectly tied head scarfs and barely-there waves, we can confidently say that we’ve found our new style for summer - tres chic! Building upon that and adding a bit of polish, Chloe set hearts ablaze with their effortless collection and attainable finishes. Pick between laid-back waves or a chic chignon this season - Redken Global Creative Director Guido Palau is giving you the tips to get either look!

DIOR

The models are wearing Dior scarves in their hair at the show this season. I love this style – it gives me 60s vibes and also Axl Rose, biker chick-type vibes. It adds a lot of personality to the style. It’s an accessory we have done two different ways for the show. I’ve complemented the scarves with soft bends in the hair. When you wear an accessory, you don’t have to change the rest of your style up too much since that becomes the statement look. My key product at this show is Redken Frizz Dismiss Rebel Tame to tame any frizz, moisturize hair, and to heat protect strands.” - Redken Global Creative Director Guido Palau.

CHLOE

“There are a few looks this season at Chloe’s FW20 show. For the first look, which is a spritzed version of hair left down, I am using layers and layers of Redken Triple Pure 32 Hairspray to achieve this look, so it’s natural but there’s some form to it. The second look is a center-parted, soft knot, and there are also some models where their hair is left naturally. Layering the hairspray keeps your head shape strong so you keep a strong, sculptural appearance to the hair. There are many variations of the Chloe girl, which is a very Chloe esthetic – I asked the models how they like their hair, and went off that. There’s a slight influence of the 70s, which is very Chloe as well.” - Redken Global Creative Director Guido Palau.
