Forget fringe? Not this season. Demi Moore and Nicole Kidman both proved that bangs are back when they stepped out at Paris Fashion Week with fresh, feathered fringes framing their long, glossy locks. True to that effortless French-girl vibe, their looks combined natural texture, soft layering, and perfectly undone polish — a masterclass in “simple yet sophisticated.”
To help recreate the look, Sam Villa, Co-Founder and Chief Creative Officer of the Sam Villa Company and Global Artistic Ambassador for Redken, shares his expert tips for cutting and styling the season’s most sought-after fringe.
The Secret to Perfect Paris Fringe
“Before cutting bangs, assess natural growth patterns, especially areas where the hair changes direction, and use less tension in those zones to maintain balance,” says Villa. “And always consider the client’s wave or curl pattern, and coach them on at-home styling—most long, wispy bangs need a bit of shaping to achieve that effortless fall.”
Villa’s approach focuses on softness, balance, and the hair’s natural movement — the key to achieving that Parisian ease we’re all chasing this fall.
Cutting Fringe
Start with dry hair and the Sam Villa Signature Series Dry Cutting Shears. Overdirect the hair from the bang area to the center of the nose using minimal elevation, then point cut for softness, lightness, and natural movement.
To open up the face and add a soft sweep toward the cheekbones, bring the center of the bangs slightly shorter and let them cascade longer toward the corners. If bangs are left closer to the same length from the middle to the corners, it will create a fuller, more filled-in appearance.
For high-density hair, repeat the sectioning and add a touch of elevation to further diffuse weight and achieve a fluid, airy finish.
Styling Fringe
Brush bangs back and forth with a Sam Villa Artist Series Polishing Paddle Brush while blow-drying downward to control root direction and encourage natural movement.
Next, use a Sam Villa SLEEKR Professional Flat Iron to smooth bangs under slightly, then allow them to cool around an oversized boar-bristle brush or Velcro roller — just enough to create a gentle bend rather than a full revolution.
