Any extra tips or techniques you can have in your back pocket for set work is essential because you never know what looks you’ll need to create. Mastering a solid professional curl set is ideal because it is the foundation for creating multiple looks while styling on set. To give you a competitive edge, Anna Peters, Sam Villa ArTeam Member and owner of re:TREAT Color + Hair Design Studio @annas_hair_retreat, is sharing her secrets for how to create a strong, workable base for session work.
5 Steps for Creating a Strong and Workable Base:
Step 2: Use a Sam Villa Signature Series 9 Row Finishing Brush to lift and dry roots while blow-drying for maximum volume at the base.
Step 3: Starting in the front and working back, use the Sam Villa Artist Series 2-in-1 Marcel Iron and Wand 1.5” to create a mohawk section. Take 1.5” deep sections of hair, curl on base for maximum volume and clip to cool with dry sectioning clips that don’t leave any indent in the hair.
Step 4: Work down the head in a brick lay pattern, clipping each curl to cool.
“Create and shoot all your down styles first so they’re smooth and glossy, and then move on to the up styles. The beautiful and strong foundation you built will be soft enough to rework and style multiple ways, yet be strong enough to have lasting power,” says Peters.
