Keep reading to learn more about how Kevin created the collection, from making time to shoot the collection to the model selection!

What was the inspiration behind this collection?

I was inspired by the Popovy sisters and the incredible dolls they craft – the details in the clothing, the emotion in their eyes and the hair, of course.

What did you learn about yourself through creating this collection?

I learned to trust my instincts and to stick up for what I believe is the right direction. When it is your art, you should believe in yourself because, in the end, it is really about feeling proud of the end result.

What was your biggest challenge?

I would have to say that getting everyone’s schedule’s to sync was probably the biggest challenge. I knew everyone that I wanted to be involved from the model to the photographer, makeup artist, videographer, nail artist and wardrobe stylist. And they are all very busy people, so it took some work but in the end, it was an amazing day.

What other forms of art inspire you?

I love most art, but I love painting, music, photography, fashion and I could watch other people do hair in a salon, all day long, I love it!

How much prep time went into each piece?

It was several months worth of work, I work and travel extensively so doing it in my spare free time, took a while. There were pieces that I built from scratch that was very intricate and were not even published that were all part of this shoot. All of the wigs that were featured had, what felt like was pounds of hair, added to each one to give them the larger than life feel I wanted.

What was your favorite part of this shoot?

The teamwork, seeing your ideas come to life and I am so grateful to everyone that was a part of it, it takes a village.

How did you select your team? Have you worked with them before?

The model was Allison Harvard, who was on one of the first seasons of Americas Next Top Model. She was always compared to a doll and we were lucky enough to have Allison jump on board. The photographer, stylist (@fgpix) and makeup artist  (@mihomakeup) are dear friends of mine and we have been so fortunate to be published in so many magazines together, so we have worked together for years. Britney Tokyo (@britneytokyo) did the nail art and she is an unbelievable artist and I was so thankful she wanted to be a part of it as well.

Where will we find you in Long Beach?!

I will be at the award ceremony for sure and visiting a bunch of friends all throughout the show.

Is this your first time entering Editorial?

It is my first time entering a hairstylist contest ever so I figured why not go for NAHA.

What are you looking forward to most about NAHA 2019?!

The presentations from the hair brands during the award show. I love to see everyone’s art come to life.
