Hair color naturally begs to be darker during the colder months. In addition to craving these colors, the new trend toward “quiet luxury” is also influencing our style choices. We’re seeking less contrast and more blending but in different ways than ombre or balayage trends of the past. As we focus on tone-on-tone hair color trends instead, we’re seeing healthy hair become paramount and the addition of hair styling or accessories to add a touch of glamour instead.

Quiet Luxury Hair Trends

Quiet luxury has not so quietly become one of the overarching trends of the season. As it translates to hair, it has become the answer to over-processed hair and focuses on deeper, shinier, healthier hair options with global shades instead of high-contrast finishes. The trend is most similar to the “expensive brunette” trend we saw last year with a focus on the health of the hair above anything else.

If you’re looking for a more low-key finish or to save time and money at the salon, skip the highlights and ask for liquid color instead. Whether deepening your current shade or looking for a high shine finish, adding a wash of color — with a Shades EQ Gloss or a combination of Gloss + Color Gels Oils is ideal to get the look.

Why Color Gels Oils?

Redken Color Gels Oils can cover grays or rejuvenate your finish with a permanent liquid color. The tones blend with your go-to Redken Shades EQ formulas to instantly give you precise results while also looking after the integrity of the hair. Ammonia-free, silicone-free, and fragrance-free, Redken Color Gels Oils creates 78% more shine* and 30% more condition**, offering up to 100% gray coverage on every shade. Releasing new shades soon, you’ll have even more color options to pick from!

As a minimalist look, color should blend and accentuate, not stand out on its own. Once you get the look, you can elevate it with styling techniques or hair accessories instead.

How To Style Your New Hair Color

Faux Blowout

A big bouncy blowout is one of the top ways to show off your new hair color. However, while many of us are either out of practice or struggling to create the look, there is a “faux blowout” option that mimics the look of a salon blowout with a lot less stress.

To get the look, you’ll want to blow dry the hair and focus on adding volume, but each section doesn’t need to be perfect. Prep the hair with Redken Big Blowout + Quick Blowout + Volume Maximizer. Remove moisture and use a round brush to create volume at the roots and smooth ends.

Then, section the hair, apply Thermal Spray 11 Low Hold and curl it with a curling iron. Before each section cools, spritz with Brushable Hairspray. Then, once all hair is curled, brush through with a wide-toothed comb or your fingers for a perfect blowout finish.

While we all love a great blowout, sometimes a sleek style shows off your hair color just as well! They practically invented the bun for the days when you don’t have the time or energy to style your hair. To get the look, part the hair and apply Max Sculpting Gel, comb into a low (or high ponytail), and secure with an elastic. Then, braid the remaining hair and wrap it around the base of the ponytail, then secure it with bobby pins for an invisible finish.
