Headed out on a much-needed spring getaway? While you’ve probably got your hands full with last-minute arrangements, it’s important that you don’t forget about your skin. From congested airplanes to unfamiliar weather conditions, your skin can suffer when you travel. Read on to learn easy ways to keep your skin looking fresh no matter where you’re headed.

Pack the essentials

Thanks to annoying TSA regulations, it’s highly unlikely that you’re going to pack your entire skincare regime. In addition to risking the chance TSA may ask you to dump your favorite skincare product while going through security clearance, you also run the risk of one of the bottles spilling its entire contents into your suitcase—no fun! Your best bet: Pack only the skincare products you can’t live without. Think: cleanser, moisturizer, eye cream, facial serum,  exfoliant or peel, SPF and lip balm.

Prep your skin before you take off

Airplane cabins can be extremely drying. Skip the heavy-duty makeup (which can look cakey at 30,000 feet) and instead concentrate on keeping skin hydrated before you step foot on the plane. Apply a hydrating serum, followed by a moisturizer and eye cream before you take off. If you’re flying during the daytime, make sure to apply an SPF as well, after the other products have absorbed into your skin.

Apply a sheet mask

Pretty much every celeb under the sun has admitted to applying a face mask during a flight. Sheet masks are not only TSA-friendly, but they’re also easy to remove without the mess. To keep skin glowy and fresh while you’re in the sky, apply a hydrating or soothing sheet mask and let it sit, then remove it and rub the remaining product into your skin.

Exfoliate shortly after you arrive

Acne-causing bacteria and dead skin cells can accumulate on your face after a long flight. Once you check into your hotel, cleanse your face, then exfoliate your skin with a gentle scrub or peel to get all of the gunk out. Follow up with your favorite serum and moisturizer.

Drink lots of water

Whether you’re spending most of your days at the beach or partying hard into the wee hours of the morning, your body needs water to function, especially if you want to keep your skin clear. Drink water with every meal and keep a large bottle nearby at all times to ensure your body is getting the hydration that it needs.
