Whether it’s natural or artificial, texture is trending! This year, we’re putting a fun spin on it by layering them. We saw a movement of layers making its way on to the runways by way of textures, prints, fabrics, and color. The same way we saw this mix on the runways, we’ll also see them make a strong play in hair in 2019. “While natural texture will always be coveted, there will be more artificial texture created with irons as well to create an almost mixed media, with braids and twists heightening the effect,” explains Anna Peters, Sam Villa ArTeam.

Now, where to start? “One of the things we’ve discovered after traveling around teaching in salons is that many stylists are unsure of where to start texturizing hair in bobs and layers to decrease bulk and increase movement,” says Andrew Carruthers, education director for Sam Villa.
