While some might think it’s prim and proper, style in London is a choose-your-own-adventure type of vibe. In any given room — an event, a bar, or a restaurant — you can see individuals dressed to the nines or simply dressing up their jeans. This is not to say that a fair amount of consciousness went into getting dressed (because it did), but rather that London style has always had a cool, carefree nature that still feels put together. Translating this vibe for your hairstyle, standout inspiration stems from Kate Moss or Sienna Miller — hair is always put together but never too “done.” And as 90s styles continue to make their rounds, we can’t forget about the hair moments from all our favorite London girls.

Leaving a restaurant, crossing the street, tons of flash and plenty of crop tops and tendrils — the paparazzi photos of all the 90s cool girls like Kate Moss, Sienna Miller, Naomi Campbell, and Kiera Knightly showcased who they were dating, what they were wearing and how to style your hair.

Currently, we're taking hairstyle inspiration from these 90s it-girls. The look is neither styled nor unstyled and can be worn to a Red Carpet event or on the high street. It involves a face frame or tendrils and looks like it was dried naturally (but still looks polished) before being thrown into an upstyle. Slight parts are welcomed, but nothing too perfect or over-directed — the definitive version of lived-in hair allows the wearer to show off jawline and clavicles with a vibe that still encapsulates a refined feel.

To get the look:

You can begin on freshly washed and styled hair or second-day hair. If hair is freshly washed, add a texturizer or dry shampoo to give it a slight grit and messy feel. Utilize your natural texture or create and undone finish. The face frame or bang area can be left natural or slightly styled to add a bit of polish, utilizing a tong to create shapes moving away from the face. Then, to add volume, slightly backcomb hair around the crown. Pull out your face-framing pieces, part your hair with your fingers for a natural feel, or pull it straight back into a low ponytail. This doesn’t have to be perfect; the more texture, the better. Wrap the twisted ponytail around the base, and use bobby pins to secure the shape. You can leave out the ends or use varying shapes to create a messy finish.
