Transitioning from winter to summer, hair color follows the natural progression of temperature from cool to warm. Platinum blondes embrace strawberry tones and cool brunettes opt for sun-kissed upgrades to their go-to style. In addition to embracing warmth for the season ahead, this change in color is coveted for the ability to add an extra dose of stunning shine. Read on for the top ways to illuminate your tone this season.

Caramel Balayage

Instead of going for the traditional “beachy blonde,” give brunette clients a warm-up with a touch of caramel. We love this color to lighten darker levels with ease because of the soft transition balayage creates. As Wella Professionals Digital Ambassador James Earnshaw  (@jhair_stylist) demonstrates, this shade is perfect to accompany curls and highly-textured clients to ensure their pattern stands out.

Get The Look:

Formula A: Balayage the hair with 20g BlondorPlex (1:1.5) + 30g Welloxon Perfect 4%

Formula B: Gloss with equal parts Color Touch 10g 9/73+10g 7/97+ 40g 1.9% (1:2)

Sun-Kissed Sans Bleach

With the increase in time spent outdoors, hair naturally lightens during the summer, which explains our attraction to sun-kissed shades during the warmer months. Although bleach is usually the go-to lightener to create a look like this, utilizing an alternative like Koleston Perfect, followed by Color Touch is a great way to lift and gloss without the sometimes harsh effects of bleach. Wella Professionals Passionista Natalie (@coloristnat) shared her formula secret to achieving this dimensional brunette sans bleach or root melt!

Get The Look:

Roots: Koleston Perfect 9/1 + 30 vol

Melt: Koleston Perfect 12/0 + 40 vol

Gloss: Color Touch 9/16 and a pinch of 9/3 + 6 vol

Copper(Tone)

Copper takes the cake as one of the most popular hair color choices of the season. It has become a welcomed alternative to red tones for its ability to add vibrance and a pop of color within a lighter color palette. This spiced copper rendition by Wella Professionals Artist Johnny Veiga (@jhonyveiga) is the perfect example of why we love this shade for curly hair and why we’ll see clients of all base shades opting for copper.

Get The Look:

If needed, pre-lighten to desired lift with BlondorPlex + Welloxon Perfect 4%

Then apply Illumina 9/43 and 7/43 to get a perfect medium copper blonde finish.
