I recently embarked on a solo trip from LA to London with my 7-month-old teething infant — a journey not for the faint of heart. While the glares and scoffs were mildly uncomfortable, what hurt more was the apparent jet lag visible on my face upon landing and for the next week or so. Not wanting to leave the house without sunglasses, I vowed never to let my skincare suffer on any other flight. Armed with puffy eyes and uneven tone, I scoured my repertoire of skincare secrets (and the internet) for the top ways to treat jet-lagged skin. Here's what I found.

How To Avoid Lackluster Skin After A Flight

While there are some quick fixes to revive your skin after a flight, the best way to avoid jet-lagged skin is before takeoff. From wheels up to wheels down, keep these tips in mind.

Flight Tips For Your Skin

  • Avoid alcohol
  • Hydrate well
  • Apply a pre-flight skincare routine
  • Bring a mask
  • Use a nanocurrent device upon landing

Let's break those down.

Avoid Alcohol

It can be tempting to pick up a complimentary glass of bubbles or vino with dinner, but we promise that your skin will feel it the next day. Even on the ground, alcohol severely dehydrates you and your skin. Add altitude to that, and you're on your way to parched city.

Hydrate Well

When dehydrated, you'll notice the skin is lackluster and can also be itchy. So before taking off, while in the air, and as soon as you land, be sure you're drinking plenty of fluids. In addition to this, consider applying a deeply moisturizing face cream. Lately, I've been in love with Jones Road Miracle Cream. This formula delivers intense moisture to plump skin and refresh your face.

Apply a Pre-Flight Skincare Routine

Pack your favorite skincare essentials in your carry-on and apply them before boarding. Changes in temperature, cabin pressure, and excess air conditioning can quickly dry your skin. If you want a little extra protection, apply your normal nighttime skincare routine. We love the combination of Jones Road Light Moisture Cream plus the Jones Road Eye Cream and The Lippie Stick or if you need a little something extra, apply the Miracle Cream for extra protection. We highly recommend tucking The Hippie Stick in your bag if you have the room. This miracle worker can be used head to toe (literally) to hydrate any area that needs deep moisture. Not to mention, the entire Jones Road Beauty range is clean, meaning it is free of phythates, sulfates, petroleum, PEGs, EDTA, and BPA.

Bring A Mask

While we also believe keeping those around you safe is essential, we're talking about sheet masks. Sheet masks are a quick and easy luxury that delivers moisture and perk up your skin. Plus, they give you something to do during your flight! Sure, you might look goofy, but most likely, you'll never see the person you sat next to again.

Use A Nanocurrent Device Upon Landing

Even if you do everything right, chances are you'll still encounter puffiness upon landing. The Ziip nanocurrent device is a must-have to depuff and revitalize my skin! Similar to the NUFace, but is slightly smaller and includes the addition of nanocurrent technology. The Ziip uses electrical microcurrent and nanocurrent to sculpt the skin, enhance collagen production, and tone the facial muscles.
