Is that a spider?! Oh, it’s just my hair. OMG that’s my hair! Relax, we all lose hair. Everyday. Unfortunately, this tends to be most visible in the shower, and can worry you… and really freak out an unsuspecting boyfriend, or anyone using your shower for that matter. But there is nothing to worry about. Losing hair is totally normal. We all do it. Typically, the average person loses up to 100 strands per day. I know, that seems like a ton, but again, completely normal.

“But I’m a curly girl, I feel like I am losing CLUMPS of hair in the shower every morning!” While you may feel like you are losing more than your finer-haired friends, take a step back and consider the different hair types. Curly hair is caught up in those thick curls all day and so it will take a brushing-through or water in the shower to knock it all loose, resulting in most of the hair seemingly falling out at once. On the other hand, straight skinny strands have a much easier time falling out on their own and therefore is often less noticeable. People with fine hair will shed throughout the day, finding strands on their clothes, on their seats, etc. Which again, is all totally normal and healthy.

However, if you do feel like you are losing an EXCESSIVE amount of hair, it’s a good idea to talk to your doctor about it. While the average person does lose those 100 or so strands a day, hair falling out in mass quantities, or in chunks, could be a sign of a bigger health problem, and is something you should check with your doctor.
