We are thrilled to partner with the Professional Beauty Association (PBA) to promote all of the talented artists who are finalists for the 2016 NAHAs (North American Hairstyling Awards), the most prestigious hair and beauty award in the country. Bangstyle had the honor of interviewing this amazing hair artist, and one of this year’s finalists in the “Avant-Garde” and "Salon Team Of The Year" categories, Erika Fung

Erika's Avant-Garde collection dazzles the eye. With flawless detail and stunning structure, this collection is truly a work of art. It is no wonder that she drew inspiration from the "disappearing sculptures" by Japanese artist Tomohiro Inaba. Her work appears to be moments frozen in time, with all kinds of emotion and feeling, flowing freely from the images.

Take a peek at Erika's incredible collection and hear her inspiration behind the art...

What was the inspiration for this collection?

My inspiration for the Avant-Garde collection came from Tomohiro Inaba’s beautiful sculptures. They have such fine detail, which is an attribute I wanted to showcase in my work.

*Erica is also a part of the NC Salon from Toronto, ON, nominated in the "Salon Team Of The Year" Category!

The entire Salon Team collection came from the inspiration and feeling of the wind and Japanese Suiboku paintings!

What is the most essential part of preparation leading up to a shoot?

The most essential part is to go with your gut feeling! Let your feelings do the work and try not to think too much about it, or it becomes unnatural.

What other nominated collections inspired you?

Everyone's collection is very unique and amazing. They're all amazing in their own ways. I am inspired by it all!

What appeals most to you about competition work?

Making a collection flow and creating a good composition is the most challenging for me. The behind-the-scenes, thought process, and teamwork appeals to me the most when we do competition work!

What do you think is the most exciting technique in the world of hair right now?

I can’t think of one to be honest! There is no exciting technique because everyday there is something new to try!

How do you Vegas?

Vegas! Finally some time to celebrate and enjoy with my amazing team! Happy memories!

Is there a category that you would love to compete in, in the future?

Not at the moment! I still love Avant-Garde; it’s different and pushes my limits! I love this category the most.

Who is the one person you don’t want to forget to thank on stage?

David (the NC Salon Owner) – he is the one who picked me up and supported me through all of my creative projects!

For the second year in a row Bangstyle will be hosting the official NAHA Afterparty at Eyecandy in Mandalay Bay. Come celebrate with us as we toast to all of the NAHA winners and nominees. See you in Vegas!

In the meantime, be sure to stalk Erika and the other NAHA Nominee's on Bangstyle, to see even more of their amazing hair art!
