Mila Belova had already broken the record books with her talent at a young age. With her latest fairy tale collection we think she might break the internet! Check out what she had to say about her inspirations and creative process…
What was the inspiration behind your collection?
My collection's name is “Synthetic Ice-Cream". My inspiration was from colors and shapes of ice-cream and candies. To be honest I'm not big fan of avant-garde hair. I don't like huge strange constructions on models' heads. I tried to create something between an avant-garde look and a commercial shape, but with a fairy tale.
How do you plan for a shoot?
The best result for a great shoot every time, and the first thing I’m always thinking about is the team I work with. People who really understand you and your direction. Another important thing is using a mood board when I'm starting to create since this moment is when my main idea becomes more clear. And of course when you have a nice mood board your team can see "by your eyes" how you imagine a shoot.
What advice do you have for new stylists?
My main advice is "do what you love and love what you do". This is a secret of my success :)
What role/importance does social media play in your career?
I love social media. I feel like the world is huge and I can share my creations with the whole world.
Who are your idols in the hair industry? Have you met any of them?
I don't have idols in any part of my life. I have people who I respect very much. One of my favorites is Errol Douglas. I love his style of playing with hair, and his energy is amazing. Now, we are really good friends and he gave me a great deal of advice and led me in the right direction for work. I also really admire Angelo Seminara. I met him once and I think he is a super nice person with really good energy.
If you could style anyone’s hair…who would it be and what would you do with their hair?
I would love to play with the hair of the amazing Tilda Swinton. I think she would be a perfect model for any editorial avant-garde look. Even for this collection “Synthetic Ice-Cream”.
Have you ever had an on-set disaster? Can you tell us about it.
I really don't remember any disasters in my photo shoot life :)
What hair trend are you loving right now?
I love washed colors and soft lines. I love when hair looks like it’s not really "done", not “just came from the beauty salon”, for me "imperfection" is perfect!
What time of day do you feel most creative?
At night ! Always at night :)
