On Friday there was a very important announcement made for the design world – Pantone’s color of the year, “Greenery” was introduced. If you noticed the ways in which Rose Quartz and Serenity influenced fashion and beauty trends in 2016 you might be wondering: will green hair be a thing? We’ve seen a few renderings of this possibility that show of the tone in a lovely light, but while green can be beautiful for interiors, clothing and makeup we wonder how it will impact hair for this season and those to come. Christian Wiles, Matrix artist, salon owner and award-winning stylist delves into his thoughts about the latest color and what it means for our clients.

“Greenery is not for the faint hearted and we all know that green is possibly one of the hardest colours to remove from the hair.”

Christian advises that before there becomes a green-hair frenzy, all colourists need to remember that a client's’ commitment to having ‘green hair’ must be high!! Consultations must be thorough and home care products are a necessity to maintain the colour’s vibrancy and tone.

Christian says, “I would be looking at a more watered down pastel hue which could be introduced in panels or clever placement before diving in and making it a monochromatic look. Whichever tone you desire, Matrix Color Sync Watercolours bring a rainbow of possibilities!”

Christian recommends Matrix Watercolour Moss Green to create the tone: “on its own can be quite intense however, you can dilute the formula by adding Clear. In order to achieve maximum results, BOND Ultim8 should be added. This will enhance the and help prolong the colour.”

“There is no doubt that the tone reflects the green issues we face with the environment and offers refreshing & revitalising colour inspiration for early spring. Green suits a cool complexion and works with all eye colours, the key is mastering the perfect tone to suit the individual client.”
