Wella has announced the 36 Finalists for the 2016 North American TrendVision Awards. Molten Ecaille and Bronde Luxe inspired all the looks this year, ideas set forth by the Wella Professionals Trends for 2016. In addition to these inspirations, each artist has their own, that greatly influence their looks in diverse ways. Learn about these inspirations and more about the artists who create these beautiful works of art! In this artist feature, we learn about Adriana Dicintio, who started her career at a very young age and has carried her to this beautiful stature.

Can you tell us a little more about you and your styling background? What drew you to hair styling?

I have been involved in the hair industry in some capacity since I was 11 years old.  I got started in the industry at such a young age, and I gained invaluable exposure to the industry that made me who I am today.  I got first-hand experience learning and progressing in the profession, and I can confidently say that hairstyling is an integral part of my life.

What is your favourite technique to use?

My favourite technique to use is the ombre hair technique.  I believe it best exemplifies my artistry and creativeness.

What has been your biggest defining moment in your career?

My biggest professional moment was winning 1st place at the Joico fantasy competition when I was in hair school.  I learned a lot throughout the process, and it gave me an abundance of confidence knowing that the judges, and the audience alike were recognizing my artistic expression.  I have developed and matured professionally since then, and I can always draw upon that moment for inspiration.

Can you give us a bit of insight into what the typical creative process behind creating a collection?

While pondering a design and style, I allow my artistic expression to govern my technique, thus allowing my creative desire an opportunity to thrive.  I conceptualize an idea, which in turn leads to another, and I continue to work like that throughout, until completion.

Is there a specific area you often find yourself looking to for inspiration?

I really enjoy the fall and summer seasons.  Nature is the best template to use while contemplating colour palettes.  In the fall season you see the colours of flowers and leaves dilute and fade away, and in the summer, you see life, and the vibrant colours of nature regenerated.  I believe that every artist in any industry should look to nature for inspiration and for awe-inspiring beauty.

Do you have any rituals to ensure a successful shoot?

I do not have any rituals per se, but I have acquired certain skills that I must execute in preparation for my photo shoot. It all begins with proper organization. It's important for me to bring many different pictures of different looks that I am trying to achieve. It’s also very important to understand that nothing ever turns out exactly how I envisioned, so I am flexible and willing to change along the way, and that helps me achieve a successful shoot.

Where do you find your inspirations?

I find my inspiration from my co-workers and my mom.  My co-workers, and especially the young talent, have fresh and diverse ideas that help me articulate my ideas.  My mom was an enormous inspiration to me.  She taught me so much. I was always able to confide in her and watching her daily overcome many obstacles in the profession gave me the confidence to overcome whatever obstacle I was faced with.

What is the one product/tool you can't live without?

The tools that I cannot live without are my scissors and blow dryer.  They work harmoniously together.  With my scissors, I can create a new look and the blow dryer solidifies that new look.

If you had one superpower, what would it be?

As important as the hair industry is to me, it definitely takes a back seat to my family and illnesses that have stricken my family. I would love to attain the superpower of curing all sicknesses and diseases, especially in children, so that no family would ever have to endure an illness that affects the innocence of youth.

Who were your mentors along the way?

My mentors along the way were my mom, Aldo Ditacchio, and my husband, Frank Dicintio.  I vividly recall working in my basement with my mom at an early age, and that experience caused me to develop a true passion for the hair industry.  Aldo also helped guide me along the way and helped bring out the very best in me.  Of course my husband, Frank, taught me about the professional and competitive aspect of photo shoots and taught me to be a winner in all areas of my life.

What has it been like so far to compete for Wella Trend Vision?

It has been an exhilarating experience competing for Wella Trend Vision.  My team and co-workers have developed a very strong camaraderie with each other. I am honoured and thrilled to be representing Canada in Las Vegas, and hopefully I can bring my best work forward and be a worthy competitor.

What do the Trend Vision awards mean to you?

The Trend Vision awards mean a great deal to me.  I am honoured to be given an opportunity to compete for an award.  Wella is an accomplished, reputable name in the industry, and to have an association with them, in any capacity is an honour. I will remember every moment of the competition, from the preparation phase, right down to the finished product.  Win or lose on the ballets, I believe just having an opportunity to compete in such a prestigious competition, that I have already won.
