We’ve seen the Curve Cut, the Bixie, and just about every iteration of the bob we thought was possible. However, as we head into spring, all of the season’s favorite haircuts are finding fresh inspiration in shorter lengths—case in point: The Butterfly Bob.

Similar to how the Wolf Cut inspired the Wolf Cut Bob, the OG Butterfly Haircut was followed by Butterfly Bangs and now the Butterfly Bob. Curious what this new trend entails? If you saw Zendaya on the NAACP Image Awards and then the SAG Awards (and who didn’t?) You know exactly what we’re talking about!

What Is The Butterfly Bob Haircut?

The Butterfly Bob follows a similar style to the original Butterfly Cut but with a shorter length. It features feathered layers and face-framing pieces that can be tailored to your face shape. The fringe and face frame that is shaped to look similar to a butterfly’s wings is where the haircut gets its name. It's swishy and can be styled with a highly texturized finish or with a polished blowout instead. Zendaya paired her butterfly bob with a polished and curled finish to create a modern classic take on the look.

How To Style the Look:

The Butterfly Bob is a flirty cut that features plenty of built-in texture. It is perfect to wear alongside your natural texture and also looks great with a polished finish like a classic blowout.

For a voluminous blowout:

  • Prep the hair with mousse at the roots and a smoothing heat protectant from the mid-lengths to ends.
  • Then blow dry each section with a round brush and place in velcro rollers or create pin curls around the top section and face frame to enhance volume.
  • Once hair is cool, use your fingers to rake through each section and use a dab of paste or a spritz of texturizing spray to enhance definition and effortless movement.
