While it’s normal to want to cuddle up and keep warm this season, stylists everywhere agree that clients are asking for a major cool down in the salon. From blondes to brunettes, each shade is leaning toward cool color finishes this season and we’ve got the top tips to get and keep you there.

It’s natural to want to change up your look as the season’s change and while this year trends are slightly more minimal one thing they all have in common is their desire to be cool. Blonde shades saw this movement last year as the trend toward platinum continued throughout the season and as clients everywhere embrace their natural shades, we’re seeing brunettes take on an icy tone all their own.

50% of women who color their hair fall in the brunette category, which has led to both trends and products evolving to meet their needs.  With new innovations and techniques, there are a few key ways to efficiently create cool tones and keep them!

Shades EQ

Shades EQ has always been a client and stylist favorite and this season the glossing service is getting even more attention. Many stylists are turning to this highly conditioning Demi-permanent range to transition gray clients with ease and without lines of demarcation. Additionally, Shades EQ is the ideal service to refresh the overall color and upgrade tone.

Shades EQ Violet Blue (VB), Matte (M), and Ash Brown (ABn) are the top picks when it comes to cooling down shades in a snap. Not sure which to reach for?

VB’s

Looking at color theory, Violet and Blue naturally cancel out Yellow and Orange leaving behind a neutral to cool finish. This makes them an obvious choice to counteract warmth in blonde and brunette tones.

Matte

Coming onto the scene earlier this year, Matte has instantly become a favorite for its ability to offer the coolest of cool tones with a coveted matte finish. These are ideal on various levels to create earthy cool tones or iridescent effects.

ABn

Craving deep, cool effects? The ABn family has a blue/pearl effect for clients that crave dark and soft finishes. Due to their truly cool finish and black to gray background — they give the ability to truly deepen shades (so be sure to formulated accordingly).

Getting cool and staying cool are two distinct yet not mutually exclusive things. While it is a great idea to keep your shades their coolest by booking regular gloss appointments, keeping your color cool at home can go a long way.

Blondes:

The best way to keep blonde shades bright and without brass is by adding Redken Color Extend Blondage to your routine.
